New House

Ohhh, I had such a great day yesterday. A perfect mix of productivity, me time, and friend time.

Brian and I have been slowly moving stuff into the new house. We are desperately trying to get off on the right foot at the new place...as in, not still have boxes sitting out in 3 months (or 6 months, or a year later, like I did at my last place)...it's hard to figure out the best way to go about doing that...we have lots of 'stuff' between the two of us...probably most of which should just get thrown away...but I'm still too sentimental to just get rid of everything...I mean, my kids are going to want those full sets of Bobbsey Twins and Trixie Belden books, I just know it! I already got rid of 3/4 of my Disney stuffed animal collection...I don't think I could handle losing any more. BUT, I do realize it is still too much stuff and some needs to go away.

We are also trying to figure out the order in which things come over...Brian is still living at his place, so his TV isn't coming to the new house for quite some time. He doesn't want to take his furniture, so we have to find new furniture...how do people afford this new furniture thing? I know that I am OVERLY cautious with money...I just went so long having nothing in my savings account and having SO much stress about paying bills...I don't like the idea of getting into that savings account pretty much at all now. Who knows what might happen! But, that is the anxiety talking and I know we will be fine. Bah. But how do you put all of the 'stuff' away without having all of the furniture in place?

Then-painting. The dining room and living room are painted pretty dark colors, and we want to lighten it up a bit. And well, while we are at it, the rest of the house could use some new paint as well...the walls are kind of dirty. And suddenly painting 3 walls becomes a huuuge project (not to mention the expenses again)....but I know that if we get all moved in without painting, it will probably never happen. Anyone interested in coming over for a painting party?! Only a little bit kidding (anyone?)...We put primer on the red wall, and I have great intentions of getting primer on the brown walls today...

But back to my excellent Monday day...I woke up early-ish. I got the heat going in the house (the heater is a bit loud, but it heats the place up pretty quickly), put my ipod on the dock and turned the Dixie Chicks up loud. It's a house...I can turn the music up...nobody is sharing a wall with me! I did some singing to said music. And moved the piles of boxes to their appropriate rooms in the house, unloaded what I could (the lack of dressers, shelves, etc makes it hard to unload everything). After a couple hours of house work, I headed over to my West Seattle friend's house and we went to lunch. Chatted. We went up to California and grabbed coffee and wandered through a few stores (I loooove wandering through stores!), and then we chatted some more. Awesome. THEN, I made the quick ten minute drive to SLU to pick Brian up from work (West Seattle is NOT that far...it literally took me TEN MINUTES), and we met up with our caterer to go over some finalizing details- it felt very productive. Super day!

It is time to register for Spring quarter! With the move I will be switching from North Seattle to South Seattle for my pre-reqs...which should be super convenient- certainly more so than North was.

I haven't talked about my little 4th/5th grade basketball team at all and we are almost all the way through the season. They are awesome! Like, really pretty good. We have had a couple of tough games just because we were short on numbers and the girls didn't have subs, but skill-wise, they are doing great...AND, I love to see them actually *thinking* about what they are doing...this has improved their passing and moving to get open SO much. Awesome.

Okay...off to my busy day! Painting party...

some things

I suppose it is about time...I've been feeling a little invincible as everyone around me caught colds and the flu, the little girls I have nannied for haven't had a single day without a runny nose or cough...and today it happened. I caught a cold. I am currently sitting on the couch, sipping massive amounts of tea with tissue stuffed up my nostrils (my mom can picture this...she has seen this image a few times). Today is the first day of it, and I'm hoping it gets better from here out. I can be hopeful, right?

In other news...
-I got an iPhone. This is my first smart phone ever, folks. I've had a bit of pride in my ability to navigate this big world with my own common sense (and the occasional 'Brian, can you look this up on your phone'), without the assistance of the smart phone. Not to mention I have been/am terrified of becoming a person that can't go five minutes without checking facebook or my email. BUT, it was time. With the new nanny gig, it just seemed like something that made sense. And yes, I'm a little ashamed to say, I am quite pleased with it. I have found myself pulling it out at less than appropriate times...but am aware of it, and working on it...it is still so new!

-My jeep was towed. From the street. For the reason that it was sitting in the same spot for more than 72 hours. Now, I realize that my jeep was sitting there for MUCH longer than 72 hours- like two months- BUT...I think it is bizarre that the law says 72 hours, in a city. I mean, if I took the bus to work- as lots of people in the city do-my car would likely sit in the same place for at least a week. I mean, it was parked around the corner from Brian's house- a street where people park on the street all the time. Towed away. Luckily I got to it pretty quickly, and the bill wasn't as scary as it could have been...but the reason I hadn't driven it in so long was because it wouldn't start. I knew it wasn't a battery, because my battery was fairly new. So as we drove to the towing place, I wasn't quite sure what we were going to do...luckily, the man that worked there offered to give the jeep a jump, went with us to listen to it, and knew exactly what was wrong. The timing of the fuel something or other was off. He reached under the hood, twisted something a little bit, and the jeep started. It sure would be nice to know something about cars!

-Brian and I got a Costco membership recently...and this past weekend we went to Costco. FOR NO REASON. We were those people that just walk up and down the aisles like we have nothing better to do with our weekend. We actually went because they have a car wash there, and Brian's car was in serious need...and hey, why not grab some samples why we are there?

-Some productive time was spent this weekend tasting tasty things for the wedding! We did our 'cake' tasting (we aren't doing cake), and we went down to the Fremont market to sample our favors. YUM! I felt pretty gross after the cake tasting day...way too much sweet stuff in my tummy...so I came home and made a huge bowl of kale...an attempt to even things out.

-Oh, on Friday night we went to see Warm Bodies in the theater. Brian's neighbor wrote the book that the movie is based on, so a group of his friends and family went to a viewing on Friday when it opened. And then a celebration party at the Fremont Abbey afterward...pretty cool for him! And the movie was great too...

All for now...off to sip more tea. I WILL fight this thing off!
